About
Established in 1982, the Pacific States Biennial North American (PSBN) is a juried printmaking exhibition held every two years by the Department of Art at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. The 2026 juror is Althea Murphy-Price, Professor of Art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The exhibition runs 2 November 2026 to 14 January 2027.
Entry was open to artists aged 18 or over residing anywhere on the North American continent, its islands and outlying US territories, including Canada and Mexico. Original printmaking media and digital or hybrid prints completed within the past two years were eligible, with paper size not exceeding 30 x 40 inches. The deadline was extended to 21 August 2026; the fee was $35 for up to two works, plus $5 per additional work (max five).
First place receives an artist residency at UH Hilo covering travel, lodging, per diem and honorarium; additional purchase awards are selected from the exhibition. The next edition is expected in 2028.
