About
The John Moores Painting Prize (China) has been held in Shanghai since 2010 as the sister competition of the Liverpool prize. It is administered in China by Shanghai Shuangpu (Double Pool) Culture Development Co., the sole authorised representative of the John Moores Painting Prize Trust. The ninth edition launched in May 2026 at the Bund 18 Jiushi Art Gallery.
Entry is open to artists and creators aged 16 and over who live and work in China. Alongside the main prizes, four Honourable Mention winners and one Contemporary Ink Painting Prize winner receive a one-month residency in the UK and take part in a group exhibition there.
Submissions closed on 22 September 2026. Finalist and prize-winning works will be exhibited at the Jiushi Art Museum, Shanghai, in early 2027. Prize amounts and entry fees were not published in the sources consulted.
