About
The Artist Residency Schloss Balmoral in Bad Ems, founded in 1995, awards annual fellowships to visual artists worldwide and of all ages, including one for an artist at risk and one for an artist from Rwanda. Since 2013 the fellowships are tied to a specific genre or annual theme.
Three fellowships run for four months and three for eight months, all starting in April. Each pays 1,400 EUR a month plus a travel subsidy of up to 500 EUR, with a furnished room and studio provided free; ancillary costs are covered by the residency.
Applicants need an MFA or comparable degree and at least three years of artistic activity after graduation. Applications are made online in German or English by the deadline published with each year's theme.
