Designer and Scenic Artist at Eton College

Eton College's theatre department is hiring a Designer and Scenic Artist to work on at least ten productions in each academic year. The post-holder takes full set design responsibility for at least eight of them, designing, making, painting and dressing the sets, collaborating on costume design with the Head of Wardrobe, producing models, ground plans and working drawings, and sourcing scenic materials, props and furniture.

The role also involves supervising the Scenic Artist and working with an Assistant Designer, teaching students painting techniques and stage management, and helping with fit-ups and get-outs. Eton asks for relevant training, experience of designing, making and painting sets and props, traditional fine art skills in sketching, rendering and painting (ideally including marbling, wood graining and texturing), knowledge of period styles and design software, and an understanding of health and safety when working with paints.

The contract is term time plus, averaging 48 hours a week, at £39,940.71 a year. Enhanced DBS checks apply. Eton may interview before the closing date and close the post early.
