About
The Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Art was set up in 2014 by Professor Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia to identify and reward West Africa's most promising visual artists. Originally for Ghanaian artists, it has been open to artists across West Africa since 2020, accepting painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and installation.
The trust describes the prize as for artists aged 25 to 40, although the 2023 call admitted artists from 18. Winners and runners-up receive cash prizes (a USD 10,000 fund in 2024), practice support and exposure through the trust's network. The most recent reported call was for the 2024 edition, announced in October 2024.
