About

The McCahon House Trust runs the Parehuia Residency at French Bay, Titirangi, next to the cottage where Colin McCahon lived in the 1950s. Each year two artists receive a three-month (12-week) residency in a furnished two-bedroom house with attached studio, a monthly stipend, introductions to the arts sector, a bespoke events programme, an education video and a commissioned 2,000-word essay.

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, mid-career visual artists with a sustained practice and recognition (exhibitions, reviews, awards), able to live and work full-time at Parehuia. The trust also runs a residency exchange with Bundanon in Australia.

The 2026 residents are Zena Elliott and Conor Clarke, and the 2027 residents are Matt Arbuckle and Christopher Ulutupu. Application dates for the 2028 residencies have not been published; enquiries go to [email protected].
