About

The Oppenheim-John Downes Memorial Trust makes awards to artists of any discipline, including visual arts and crafts, who are prevented by poverty from pursuing their vocation. Applicants must be British subjects born in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, over 30 on 1 December of the year of application, and able to show financial need.

Awards are typically £250 to £1,000 and are made in December. They can fund materials, travel or research but not course fees, living expenses or debts. Priority may go to first-time applicants, and only the first 120 eligible applications are considered.

Applications open on 1 June and close on 2 October each year, online or by paper form.
