About
The Royal Hibernian Academy's Annual Exhibition is the longest-running open-submission exhibition in Ireland, held at the RHA Gallery in Dublin each summer with free admission. More than half of the works shown are selected through open submission in two rounds of judging; the 196th exhibition (25 May to 9 August 2026) drew 4,890 submissions, of which 435 works were selected. Prizes in 2026 exceeded €42,500 across disciplines, including the RCSI Art Award (€5,000 plus a €10,000 commission), the Ireland-U.S. Council and Irish Arts Review Portraiture Award (€5,000) and the ESB Keating Award (€3,000), with the €20,000 Hennessy Craig Award and Homan Potterton Prize scheduled for 2028.
The open call usually opens in December with a deadline in late February (the 2025 deadline was 23 February). Details for the 197th exhibition in 2027, including fees and submission limits, had not been published on the RHA website when read.
