About
The RSA Blackadder Houston Mid-Career Travel Award, funded by the Blackadder Houston Bequest, is an annual £5,000 award for mid-career painters who are at least fifteen years out of art school or can demonstrate at least fifteen years of substantive practice predominantly based in painting. Applicants must have been born in Scotland or have lived there for at least three consecutive years, and must not currently be enrolled in education. The award supports research, development and production of a new body of work through a dedicated period of travel outside the UK.
The 2026 round is closed and the winner announced. The award runs annually, with details for the next round published on the RSA opportunities pages.
