About
South Arts' Southern Prize and State Fellowships recognise visual artists in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. One State Fellow per state receives $5,000; from these, the Southern Prize winner receives an additional $25,000 and the finalist $10,000. The fellows' work tours in an exhibition; the 2026 exhibition is at Western Carolina University (11 August – 23 October 2026) and the Gadsden Museum of Art from 5 March 2027.
The 2026 application deadline was 27 February 2026. The 2027 call has not been posted; recent cycles have opened in late autumn and closed in late February or early March.
