About
The TOKYO MIDTOWN AWARD art competition supports next-generation artists through a staged selection. Applicants submit a plan via web form (no artwork), 12 are shortlisted, and six finalists each receive a production subsidy of JPY 1,000,000 (less JPY 300,000 fixed transport costs and tax) to realise the work for a final judging and exhibition at Tokyo Midtown.
There is no theme and any genre is accepted, limited to unpublished works. Applicants must be 39 or under at the deadline; there is no nationality restriction but Japanese communication is required and finalists must attend sessions in Tokyo. The 2026 application period was 10 April to 11 May 2026, with the exhibition 18 September to 8 November 2026.
