About
Tylee Cottage is an 1853 cottage in Whanganui owned by the Sarjeant Gallery and used as an artist residency since 1986. The programme gives artists time to develop a new body of work 'under less pressured circumstances', often followed by an exhibition at the gallery.
In 2026 two four-month residencies ran from April to November, in the categories 'Painter over the age of 35' and 'Photography / New Media', with applicants from across Aotearoa. The programme is funded through Creative New Zealand's Toi Uru Kahikatea investment programme.
Application dates, stipend and criteria for the next round are not published on the gallery's page; contact the Sarjeant Gallery for details.
