About

The World Press Photo Contest, run by the Amsterdam-based World Press Photo Foundation since 1955, rewards the best photojournalism and documentary photography of the previous year. Entries are judged first by regional juries across six world regions and then by a global jury, in Singles, Stories and Long-Term Projects categories, with a World Press Photo of the Year chosen from the regional winners.

Entry is restricted to professional photographers in journalism or documentary photography, who must supply a dated document confirming professional status; teams may enter with proof for each member. A photograph may be entered only once, as a Single, in a Story or in a Long-Term Project.

The 2026 contest took entries from 1 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, announced winners on 9 April 2026 and the Photo of the Year on 23 April 2026, and opened its flagship exhibition in Amsterdam on 24 April 2026. The 2027 contest opens on 1 December 2026 and closes on 13 January 2027 at 13:00 CET.
