About
The City of St. Catharines is looking for professional mural artists and artist-led teams to paint a landmark mural as part of its sesquicentennial. Inspired by 'A Love Letter to a City', a poem by the city's Poet Laureate Shannon Kitchings, the mural should reflect the people, places and shared experiences that have shaped St. Catharines over 150 years while looking ahead. It will cover the north-west facing exterior wall at Ontario Street Park.
The call is open to professional visual and mural artists and teams who live in Ontario or have strong ties to St. Catharines and can show experience of murals, public art or large-scale projects. Artists from equity-deserving communities are strongly encouraged. Artists invited to stage two receive a C$1,500 plus HST honorarium for concept development.
The project budget is C$50,000, covering artist and assistant fees, materials, equipment, permits, insurance, travel, surface preparation and protective coatings. Submit through the city's online portal by 11:59pm ET on Sunday 22 November 2026.
