About

The Samstag Scholarships are awarded each year by Adelaide University on behalf of the estate of Gordon Samstag. Each scholarship covers twelve months overseas: institutional fees for one academic year, a tax-exempt stipend of $75,000, return airfares and travel and health insurance. Study must be a practice-led visual art programme at an institution approved by the Samstag Museum.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 or over, and either current students who have completed at least two years of a practice-led visual arts degree at an Australian institution, or graduates of such a degree (graduates of more than five years' standing may apply). Selection weighs the quality and stage of the applicant's work over academic results; up to ten examples of work are submitted via the online portal.

The Class of 2027 round closed at midnight ACST on 30 June 2026, with recipients announced in November. The Class of 2028 round has not yet been announced.
