About

A sculpture and objects conservation practice is seeking a conservation technician to help conserve and maintain sculpture, objects and public art across the Los Angeles area. Work includes cleaning and surface maintenance, waxing, polishing and coating, minor repairs, fills and in-painting, documentation and photography, and art handling, installation and deinstallation, often from ladders, scaffolding and lifts.

Previous conservation experience is not required. The ad asks for a background in art, museums, fabrication or collections, careful hands-on skills, a valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle, and the ability to lift 50 pounds and work at height with solvents and coatings. Art handling, preparator, installation, fabrication, sculpture or painting experience is especially welcome. The principal conservator provides training, and the ad suggests it suits people building pre-programme conservation hours or art handlers adding conservation skills.

The work is irregular and project-based, about four to five days a month on average, sometimes with travel, from $30 an hour. To apply, send a résumé and a brief introduction describing your art experience and why you are interested in conservation.
