About
The Australian War Memorial in Canberra is hiring an experienced curator for its Art Section. The collection of more than 36,000 works, including paintings, drawings, prints, posters, sculpture, installation and video, covers responses to Australian military history from colonial forces to current conflicts. Reporting to the Senior Curator of Art, the curator helps shape the collection and art programme through research, acquisitions, commissions, exhibitions, publications and public engagement.
The Memorial asks for tertiary qualifications in art history, curatorship, museum studies or a related field and at least five years of curatorial or relevant experience, with strong art historical knowledge and project management. The work involves regular contact with distressing material about war, trauma and loss.
The post is full time in Campbell, ACT, paid A$99,734–A$111,701. As an Australian Public Service role it is open only to Australian citizens, and successful applicants must pass security checks. Applications close 4 November 2026.
