About
FORMAT, founded in 2004 and led by QUAD in Derby, is the UK's leading international photography biennale. The FORMAT27 open call invited photographers, artists, curators and collectives worldwide to propose work on the theme Play, across all lens-based practices including installation, moving image, publication and performance.
Up to five selected projects are exhibited at FORMAT27 with full production, a £1,000 artist fee, travel up to £300 and opening-weekend accommodation. Awards include the FORMAT27 Open Call Award of £2,500 production support, a £1,000 Genesis print credit and exhibition opportunities at Lishui (China) and Glaz (France) festivals.
The call opened 24 June and closed 7 September 2026 with a €27 fee via Picter. The festival runs in Derby from 11 March to 11 April 2027.
