About
The Gilbert Bayes Award, named after sculptor Gilbert Bayes (1872-1953), supports early-career artists working in sculpture, installation, performance, video, conceptual practice or site-specific work. Recipients join a year-long mentoring programme of eleven monthly sessions (January to November 2027, excluding August) covering positioning work, accessing opportunities, building networks and engaging with the art world.
Awardees present at a Sculpture Slam talk, exhibit together in early 2028, may take up a residency at Benson Sedgwick Engineering in East London, and receive one year of free Royal Society of Sculptors membership plus two years at a discount. The 2027 guest selector is Kate Davies, Director of the Roberts Institute of Art.
Applicants of any age or nationality need at least four years of exhibiting experience, must not be in full-time education (PhD students may be eligible) and must not be current or past members of the Society. Applications via CuratorSpace with up to 12 images across at least five works, statement, CV and a short statement; £10 non-refundable fee. Deadline 2pm, Tuesday 13 October 2026; results mid-November 2026. Travel and production costs are not covered.
