About
The Harpo Foundation's Grants for Visual Artists support self-defined under-recognised artists, aged 21 or older, who are US citizens or Legal Permanent Residents. Awards are up to $10,000 and the number made depends on the year's budget. Current fine-art degree students, those enrolled in the past twelve months, and previous Harpo direct grant recipients are not eligible.
Applications are made through Submittable with an artist résumé, a statement of up to 200 words and up to ten work samples. The fee is $15; a waiver can be requested in writing for financial hardship before submitting. Decisions are usually announced by 15 December.
The 2026 cycle closed on 27 April 2026. The Foundation's page says to check back in February 2027 for information on the next cycle; the portal typically opens about two months before the deadline.
