About
The Cabbagetown Business Improvement Area and the City of Toronto plan to commission a large sculptural work, or series of works, by one Indigenous artist and a mural by another Indigenous artist on the wall of the No Frills at Spruce and Parliament Streets. The two pieces should share Indigenous themes or design elements, with the mural acting as a backdrop to the sculpture.
The call is for Indigenous artists based in Canada with connections to Toronto who have a record of public exhibition, artistic training or peer recognition, and who are recognised as Indigenous within their community. Stage one asks for credentials; shortlisted artists in stage two are paid C$1,000 (+HST if applicable) to prepare a proposal.
The approximate budgets are C$108,000 plus HST for the sculpture and C$20,000 plus HST for the mural. The full call document is on the curator's website. Submissions close at 11:59pm EST on 29 November 2026.
