About

Beam Center, a Brooklyn youth organisation, is hiring an instructor for the metalworking cohort of its SkillCETT craft skills programme, a sixteen-week out-of-school programme for young people aged roughly 16 to 18. The instructor leads workshop and seminar instruction for 10 to 12 participants about 12 hours a week, covering MIG welding, soldering, patina, cutting and grinding, mould making, pewter and aluminium casting and bending, and manages two assistant instructors.

The role includes lesson planning, making example projects and prototypes, maintaining a culture of safety with hot work and machines, keeping notes for programme reflection and taking part in team meetings. Beam wants someone with sharp competency in hot work and cold bending, some casting and mould-making experience, familiarity with machine maintenance, and experience with project-based learning or working with young people.

Employment runs from 16 November 2026 to 29 March 2027: 60 hours of hybrid training and planning until 1 December, then in-person facilitation of up to 20 hours a week on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Pay is $30 an hour.

Apply on Beam Center's jobs page or email a single PDF with a cover letter under 300 words, resume and work sample to [email protected]. Hiring is rolling; the listing's deadline is 9 November 2026.
