Preparator at Glenstone Museum

Glenstone, the contemporary art museum in Potomac, Maryland, is hiring a Preparator in its Registration department, reporting to the Head Preparator. The role supports and leads installation of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, manages works in storage and prepares works to travel on loan.

Duties include installing, deinstalling, packing, shipping and receiving artworks, supervising temporary and contract art handlers, devising installation methods (including for audio-visual and multimedia works), designing and fabricating mounts, operating heavy equipment, working on crate design and construction, inventory, updating installation manuals and occasional courier trips at home and abroad.

Glenstone asks for a degree in fine art, architecture, art history, museum studies or a related subject, at least five years as an art handler, fabricator, carpenter or AV technician in a museum, gallery, design/build firm or academic setting, current certification for lifts, forklifts and rigging equipment, and the ability to lift up to 70 lbs. The salary range is $65,000–$76,000 a year.
