About
North Yorkshire Council wishes to commission an artist to create artworks as part of small-scale improvement works at Selby Park in the centre of Selby. The artist will research and develop a series of proposals linked to the drainage, path, planting and new recreation works, collaborating with parks officers, landscape architects and the regeneration team. The council is interested in sensory, interactive and playful elements that use natural materials and encourage exploration of the park's ecology.
The council is looking for artists with experience of working with natural materials and the landscape, knowledge of materials and approaches for public places, and ideally experience of interactive or sensory work. The artist should begin in December 2026 and be available through early 2027 into spring.
The budget is £10,000, which must cover all fees, expenses, materials, fabrication and installation. This stage is an open call for expressions of interest with relevant information about the artist, not proposals. Request the Artist's Brief by email with 'Selby Park Improvements' in the subject line or see the Culture North Yorkshire opportunities page. Applications close at 5pm on 16 November 2026, with a shortlist interviewed at the end of November.
