Art Technician at the Whitney Museum of American Art

The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York is recruiting an Art Technician to handle artwork arriving at and leaving the museum and its warehouse, as well as working off site on collection works and loans. Technicians work alongside the registration, curatorial and conservation teams and with artists directly.

Duties include installing artwork, collection care, packing for transport, organising art storage, preparatory work such as metalwork, carpentry and mount making, daily truck loading, courier trips, gallery maintenance and leading temporary art handling staff on projects. The post also takes part in deploying the museum's floodwall, with periodic training.

Applicants need to be confident with hand, power and shop tools and safe moving equipment, and should know how to operate scissor lifts and forklifts or be willing to learn. The role is full time and regular, supporting a two-year project, paid at $44.92 an hour with medical, dental, vision and 403(b) benefits, and is covered by Local 810.
