About

Columbia University's School of the Arts in New York is recruiting a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Visual Arts, open to artists working in any medium or discipline, to start on 1 July 2027. The Visual Arts Program teaches an MFA and an undergraduate major across moving image, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and expanded practice, with a sound art strand run with the music department.

The appointee will teach graduate students across all media and undergraduate studio courses, advise students, lead group critiques, supervise MFA theses and take on rotating service and leadership roles. The full-time load is four classes a year, and a fully engaged presence on campus is expected. Candidates should have a significant exhibition record, strong technical skills and leadership qualities; at least three years of undergraduate and graduate teaching is strongly preferred, and an MA or MFA is preferred (minimum BA or equivalent).

The listed salary range is $108,000–$115,000 for Assistant Professor and $115,000–$135,000 for Associate Professor. Applications go through Columbia's Academic Search and Recruiting system with a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, three referees and a document linking to at least 15 work images. Review begins on 10 January 2027 and continues until the post is filled.
