About
Freelands Foundation supports artists and visual arts organisations across the UK. Its artist-facing strands are the Freelands Studio Fellowships (studios and support at partner universities for recent graduates), the Freelands Painting Prize (final-year undergraduates nominated by their institution; 2026 exhibition 7–31 October) and Porthmeor Studios residencies in St Ives. The Freelands Award (£100,000) and other grants are for organisations only.
Studio Fellowships are for early-career artists who are alumni of partner institutions; applications go through the universities, with a deadline of 15 October 2026 for the 2027 programme.
Fellows receive studio space, mentorship, accommodation and travel support and a grant towards living and material costs. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications.
