About

Once Upon a Light is a video mapping festival that projects contemporary video art, animation and architectural projections onto the historic façade of Laidi Palace in Kuldīga Municipality, Latvia. It is organised by Laidi Palace Residency with Peculiar Reality Lab, and its themes are memory, identity, transformation, renewal and the meeting of past and present.

Artists, animators, motion designers, VJs, digital media creators, studios, collectives and students anywhere in the world can apply. You can adapt an existing work for projection or propose a new one.

Five selected artists receive stipends of €1,500, €1,200, €1,000, €800 and €500, plus a two-week residency with accommodation and creative facilities at Laidi Palace Residency or at Peculiar Reality Lab in Liepāja. Selected works are projected on the palace and documented on video.

Entry is free. Apply by email to [email protected] with a portfolio or showreel, a short biography, your proposal or existing work, and the materials listed in the guidelines. The final deadline is 20 December 2026.
