About
Shape Arts' Emergent programme supports early-career disabled artists. The 2026 edition is delivered with Tate St Ives and The Borlase Smart John Wells Trust (Porthmeor Studios). The awarded artist receives a one-week residency in Cornwall (18–24 January 2027), the opportunity to host a creative event for young people at Tate St Ives, remote mentoring from Shape Arts and a £3,000 bursary.
To be eligible for the residency, applicants must be based in Cornwall, Devon or Somerset. Artists elsewhere in the UK may apply to join the shortlisted cohort of four, who receive remote mentoring from Shape Arts and funded mentoring with a practitioner of their choice.
All applicants must be 18 or over, UK-based, within the first five years of their artistic career, not in full-time education, self-identify as disabled and not have been previously shortlisted by Emergent. Applications are via Google Form or a Word document emailed to Shape Arts.
