About
The Studio Museum in Harlem's Artist-in-Residence program, running since 1968, offers three artists an eleven-month residency with studio space, a stipend paid over the residency, institutional guidance, professional development and research support, culminating in an exhibition at the museum. The 2026-27 programme runs 2 November 2026 to 3 October 2027 with an exhibition in June-September 2027.
The museum's mission centres artists of African descent locally, nationally and internationally; the residency is open to artists at any career stage working in any medium, with international applicants responsible for their own visas. Applications require a CV, five to ten work samples and an artist statement; letters of recommendation are optional. There is no application fee.
Applications are currently closed; the museum advises checking the webpage in 2027 for the next round.
